10% palladium-activated carbon (50 mg) and zinc(II) bromide (25 mg) were added to a solution of (5R)-5-[(E)-2-{5-[(1E)-4-{[tert-butyl(dimethyl)silyl]oxy}but-1-en-1-yl]-6-methoxypyridin-2-yl}-2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)ethenyl]-1-(2,4-dimethoxybenzyl)pyrrolidin-2-one (226 mg) in methanol (5 mL), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for five hours in a hydrogen atmosphere. The reaction solution was diluted with ethyl acetate and filtered through celite. The filtrate was sequentially washed with water and brine and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, after which the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane:ethyl acetate=7:3→1:9) to give (5R)-5-[(E)-2-[5-(4-{[tert-butyl(dimethyl)silyl]oxy}butyl)-6-methoxypyridin-2-yl]-2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)ethenyl]-1-(2,4-dimethoxybenzyl)pyrrolidin-2-one as a colorless oil (140 mg, 62%).
