1-Methyl-2-imidazolidinone (80 mg) and potassium carbonate (135 mg) were added to a solution of 6-[(1E)-3-bromo-1-(4-tert-butylphenyl)prop-1-en-1-yl]-3-chloro-2-methoxypyridine (123 mg) in acetonitrile (2 mL), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3.5 days. The reaction solution was poured into water, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate and filtered, after which the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane:ethyl acetate=4:1→0:10) to give 1-[(2E)-3-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-3-(5-chloro-6-methoxypyridin-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-yl]-3-methylimidazolidin-2-one as a yellow oil (13 mg, 10%).
