48% hydrobromic acid (2 mL) was added to a solution of [4-(cyclopropylsulfanyl)phenyl][6-methoxy-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-yl]methanone obtained in Reference Example 1-68 (400 mg) in 1,4-dioxane (4 mL), and the mixture was stirred at 65° C. for one hour. Water was added to the reaction solution, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, after which the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane:ethyl acetate=1:1→1:5) to give 6-{[4-(cyclopropylsulfanyl)phenyl]carbonyl}-3-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2(1H)-one (210 mg, 55%).
