Tert-butyl(trans-4-((5-methylpyridin-2-yl)amino)cyclohexyl)carbamate (0.9695 g, 3.17 mmol) and hydrogen chloride (4.0 M solution in 1,4-dioxane, 11.02 ml, 31.7 mmol) to stir at room temperature. After 3½ hours the mixture was evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure. The crude trans-N1-(5-methylpyridin-2-yl)cyclohexane-1,4-diamine dihydrochloride was used without further purification.
