Hydrogen chloride, 4.0M solution in 1,4-dioxane (130 mL, 519 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of the tert-butyl(trans-3-(1-methyl-2-oxo-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-3(2H)-yl)cyclobutyl)carbamate product of step 2 (33.1 g, 104 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (400 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 21 h. The precipitate was filtered and washed with ether to yield the title compound (13.4 g, 51% yield) as an off-white solid.
