To an ice-cooled solution consisting of (R)-6,6-difluoro-3,3-dimethyltetrahydropyrrolo[1,2-c]oxazol-5(3H)-one (intermediate 6, 1.28 g, 6.70 mmol) in methanol (20 mL) was added dropwise 4N HCl in dioxane (3.0 mL, 12 mmol) and stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. The resulting mixture was concentrated and the product concentrate used without purification; TLC Rf 0.60 (solvent system 93:7 v/v dichloromethane-methanol).
