A mixture of 3-(trifluoromethyl)pyrazole (1.58 g, 11.6 mmol) and NCS (1.55 g, 11.6 mmol) in CH3CN (20 mL) was heated at 80° C. for 3 hrs. It was then cooled to rt, evaporated in vacuo, and purified by flash chromatography (SiO2) with a gradient elution of 0 to 15% EtOAc/CH2Cl2 to afford 4-chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl)pyrazole (1.52 g, 77%).
