To a solution of methyl 4-(6-phenyl-1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decan-6-yl)butanoate (0.137 g, 0.43 mmol) in MeOH (3 mL) was added 1N sodium hydroxide (1.290 mL, 1.290 mmol), and the mixture was stirred at room temp for 4 hrs. It was made acidic with 1.4 mL of 1N HCl and the product was extracted with EtOAc (2×). The combined extracts were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated to give a solid residue (128 mg).
