Procedure

To a solution of racemic tert-butyl 4-((2,4-difluorophenyl)fluoromethyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (148 mg, 0.449 mmol) in dioxane (1.50 mL) was added HCl (4 M in dioxane, 337 μL, 1.348 mmol). The mixture was heated at 45° C. for 16 h then concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound as its HCl salt (109 mg, 91%) as a white solid.
