Trifluoroacetic acid (15 mL) was added to a solution of tert-butyl 2-{2-[6-bromo-3-(2,2-dimethylpropionylamino)-2-methoxycarbonylphenyl]-ethyl}-pyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (Intermediate 36, 2.54 g) in DCM (15 mL) and the mixture was left to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. The resultant solution was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and potassium carbonate solution. The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4) and filtered and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give methyl 3-bromo-6-(2,2-dimethylpropionylamino)-2-(2-pyrrolidin-2-yl-ethyl)benzoate (2.05 g) as a white foam.
