Procedure
The benzyloxy protected fluoro nucleoside (A2, 3.0 g, 8.25 mmol) was dissolved in formic acid (95%, 30 mL) to which water (3 mL) was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature and was followed by tlc (silica gel, 100% EtOAc). The reaction was shown to be complete in 3 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated by rotary evaporation keeping the bath temperature <30° C. The crude product was purified by CombiFlash® column chromatography (Silica gel; 0 to 100% EtOAc:Heptane) providing the desired material in 83% yield (3, 2.8 g).
