A mixture of 5-bromo-2-iodobenzaldehyde (14.9) (1.0 g, 3.2 mmol) and PTSA (0.1 g) in ethanol was stirred under reflux for 18 hrs and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed with saturated NaHCO3, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated to give 4-bromo-2-(diethoxymethyl)-1-iodobenzene (14.10) that was directly used in next reaction without further purification.
