Trifluoroacetic acid (20 mL) was cooled to 0° C., then tert-butyl(mesitylsulfonyl)oxycarbamate (J; 6 g, 0.0189 mol) was added portion wise for 30 min. The reaction mixture was allowed to stir for 2 h at the same temperature. Ice cold water (150 mL) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred for 15 min to form a precipitate, which was filtered to get a solid compound. The solid was dried under vacuum to afford 2-[(aminooxy)sulfonyl]-1,3,5-trimethylbenzene. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.62 (s, 1H), 8.56 (s, 1H), 2.56 (s, 3H)
