Procedure
A suspension of 3,4-dihydro-3-phenylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one (430 mg, 1.9 mmol) in 3N HCl (30 mL) was stirred at 5° C. Sodium nitrite (150 mg, 2.17 mmol) in water (1 mL) was added dropwise and stirring was continued for 1 h. The reaction mixture was extracted with DCM. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under vacuum to obtain 475 mg of 3,4-dihydro-4-nitroso-3-phenylquinoxalin-2(1H)-one.
