Procedure

A mixture of compound 50 (4.40 g, 14.30 mmol) and 5 nCl2.2H2O (16.13 g, 71.5 mmol) in ethanol (100 mL) was stirred at 80° C. for 3 h. Water and saturated bicarbonate solution (˜250 ml) was added (very effervescent). The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and then Celite® was added and the mixture was stirred for 15 min then filtered. The filtrate was extracted with ethyl acetate twice, and the organic extract was dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The crude was purified by flash chromatography, dry loaded with THF onto 80 g SiO2 and eluted with 0% to 50% ethyl acetate in hexanes to afford title compound 51 (2.10 g, 51%) as a beige solid. LRMS (ESI): (calc) 277.05. (found) 278.2 (MH)+. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ (ppm): 7.89 (dd, J=7.9, 1.7 Hz, 1H), 7.46 (ddd, J=7.9, 7.4, 1.8 Hz, 1H), 7.17 (td, J=7.6, 1.2 Hz, 1H), 6.97 (dd, J=8.3, 0.9 Hz, 1H), 6.94 (dd, J=8.4, 2.3 Hz, 1H), 6.79 (d, J=2.3 Hz, 1H), 6.73 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 1H), 4.05 (s, 2H), 3.87 (s, 3H).
