Procedure
To a degassed solution of 1.0 g (3.4 mmol) of material from Example 1, 0.8 g (5.1 mmol) of 2-methoxybenzeneboronic acid and 0.7 g (5.1 mmol) of potassium carbonate in 15 mL of dioxane and 5 mL of water was added 0.2 g (0.2 mmol) of tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0). The mixture was heated to 100° C. for 16 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to ambient temperature, diluted with 10 mL of water and extracted three times with ethyl acetate. The combined organics were dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo. Chromatography on 50 g silica gel (35% ethyl acetate/hexane) afforded 1.0 g (90%) of the title compound as a viscous oil.
