A solution of (5S)-5-(acetylamino)-9,10,11-trimethoxy-6,7-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,c]cyclohepten-3-yl 3-{[(2R)-2,6-di(tertbutoxycarbonylamino)hexanoyl]amino}propanoate (1) (0.123 g; 0.162 mmol) in dichloromethane (10 ml) was treated with a 4.8M solution of hydrogen chloride in ether (170 μl; 0.81 mmol). The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 1 hour and the resulting precipitate was filtered, washed with ether and dried to give (5S)-5-(acetylamino)-9,10,11-trimethoxy-6,7-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,c]cyclohepten-3-yl 3-{[(2R)-2,6-diaminohexanoyl]amino}propanoate as a white solid.
