3-(13-tert-Butoxycarbonylamino-tricyclo[8.2.1.03,8]trideca-3(8),4,6-trien-5-yl)-acrylic acid methyl ester (300 mg, 0.809 mmol, prepared in Example 32 Step 3) and 20% palladium hydroxide on carbon (30 mg) in ethanol (30 ml) were stirred under 1 atm. of hydrogen at room temperature for 18 hours. The mixture was filtered through Celite and the filtrate concentrated to give a colourless oil 285 mg (94%). 1H NMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz) δ 7.00 (1H, d, J=8.2 Hz), 6.90 (2H, m), 4.97 (1H, m), 4.03 (1H, m), 3.67 (3H, s), 2.99 (2H, m), 2.89 (2H, m), 2.55–2.62 (4H, m), 2.48 (2H, m), 1.71 (2H, m), 1.47 (9H, s), 1.19 (2H, m).
