EDCI (61 mg; 0.32 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-Amino-3-cyano-4,5-dimethylthiophene (prepared in Example 1, Step 1; 24 mg; 0.148 mmol) and 2,3-diphenylpropionic acid (72 mg; 0.32 mmol). After stirring for 19 h, the reaction mixture was applied directly to a silica gel column (Merck Silica gel 60, 230–400 mesh, eluent: 10%–33% ethylacetate/hexanes) to provide N-(3-Cyano-4,5-dimethyl-thiophen-2-yl)-2,3-diphenyl-propionamas a white solid (17.0 mg; 39%).
