Procedure
(5R)-3-(4-(1,4-Dioxa-8-azaspiro[4,5]dec-8-yl)-3-fluorophenyl)-5-methanesulfonyloxymethyl-oxazolidin-2-one (3.03 g, 7.04 mM) was dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (50 ml), treated with sodium azide (732 mg, 11.3 mM), and heated with stirring at 50° for 4 hours. After cooling the mixture was diluted with water (250 ml), and extracted into ethyl acetate (3×100 ml). The combined organics were dried (magnesium sulfate), and evaporated to give product (2.44 g), of sufficient quality for use without purification.
