Procedure

A solution of 4′-bromomethyl-3-methylsulfonylbiphenyl (190 mg, 0.57 mmol) (WO 01/70753) and potassium thioacetate (78 mg, 0.68 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (4 mL) was heated at 150° C. in a microwave for 3 min. The reaction mixture was poured into diethyl ether (30 mL) and washed with water (3×15 mL), brine (15 mL), dried with magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated to give a crude yellow oil. The crude oil was purified by flash column chromatography to yield 1.35-A (180 mg, 89%) as a thick light yellow oil. LCMS found for C16H17O3S2 (M+H)+: m/z=321.
