A solution of 204 mg (1.0 mmol) of 4-bromothioanisole in 2.5 mL of THF was cooled to -78° C. and treated with 0.42 mL of 2.5M n-BuLi solution in hexane. After stirring at -78° C. for 1 h, a solution of 380 mg (2.0 mmol) of methyl 2-trimethylsilyloxyisobutyrate in 2 mL of THF was added. The mixture was stirred at -78° C. for 2 h and then quenched with NH4OAc buffer. The product was extracted with EtOAc, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography, eluting with 19:1 hexane/EtOAc to give 95 mg of the title product.
