tert-Butyl (2S)-2-((3S)-3-{[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]amino}-2-oxopyrrolidin-1-yl)propanoate (0.5 g) was dissolved in DCM (7 ml), and trifluoroacetic acid (4.7 ml) was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1.5 h and then concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (0.423 g) as a colourless oil which after azeotroping with toluene, crystallised.
