12.5 g (0.05 mol) of the compound from Example 1 were dissolved in methanol. 2.0 g (0.03 mol) of sodium cyanoborohydride were then added in portions. 5.3 ml (0.05 mol) of pentanal were cautiously added dropwise to the solution. After stirring for 48 h at room temperature, the solution was concentrated in vacuo, the residue was dissolved in methylene chloride and the solution was washed with 2N hydrochloric acid. The organic phase was separated off, dried and concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was put through a 1000 cm3 silica gel 60 column. The system methylene chloride/ethyl acetate 7:3 was employed as the eluent.
