实验过程

23 g of the ester of example 1 is refluxed in 200 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid for 20 hours. After concentration by evaporation in a vacuum, the residue is dissolved in water and brought to pH 8 with 50% sodium hydroxide solution. Then it is adjusted to pH 5-6 with 1M hydrochloric acid and evaporated to dryness. The crystalline residue is boiled several times with ethyl acetate and filtered. After concentration by evaporation, 20 g of 4-[1-(1-imidazolyl)-butyl]-benzoic acid with a melting point of 171°-172° C. is obtained.
