1.0 g of benzoic acid methyl ester of example 1 is dissolved in 15 ml of tetrahydrofuran and mixed with 0.15 g (3.9 mmol) of lithium aluminum hydride and left at room temperature for 1 hour. The reaction solution is mixed with 50% sodium hydroxide solution and the organic phase is decanted. The organic phase is concentrated by evaporation in a vacuum and distilled on a bulb tube, boiling point 200° C./0.03 mbar. 0.6 g of 4-[1-(1-imidazolyl)-butyl]-benzyl alcohol is obtained.
