Procedure

The crude compound from Example 5 was stirred in 4.0 ml of methanol/1.0 ml water with 0.1 ml hydrazine hydrate at reflux for 2.0 hours. The reaction mixture was poured into 1N hydrochloric acid/ethyl acetate, and the ethyl acetate layer was washed with brine, dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated under vacuum. Flash chromatography of the concentrate on silica gel using 5:1 to 2:1 hexane/ethyl acetate (1% acetic acid) as eluant gave the product, melting point 156°-158° C.
