To a solution of 3-fluoro-3-(1-methanesulfonyloxyethyl)pyrrolidine-1-carboxylic acid benzyl ester (Example A15, 0.25 g, 0.72 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (5 mL) is added sodium azide (0.13 g, 2 mmol). The reaction mixture is heated at 120° C. overnight. The mixture is diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extracts are washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to afford the title compound (0.160 g). 1H NMR (200 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.28 (s, 5H), 5.08 (s, 2H), 3.80-3.25 (m, 5H), 2.13-1.75 (m, 2H), 1.40 (d, 3H).
