Procedure
Partial oxidation of ethyl 2-(4-cyclopropylsulfanylphenyl)-3-(tetrahydropyran-4-yl)acrylate (see Preparation 22, 3.14 g, 9.44 mmol) with mCPBA, employing the protocol described above in Preparation 18, furnished ethyl 2-(4-cyclopropanesulfinylphenyl)-3-(tetrahydropyran-4-yl)acrylate: m/z (ES+)=349.2 [M+H]+. Saponification of this ester (1.15 g, 3.3 mmol), using the procedure described in Preparation 25, afforded the title compound: m/z (ES+)=641.4 [2M+H]+.
