Reflux a solution of commercially available 2-bromo-4′-fluoroacetophenone (100.00 g, 460 mmol), 2,2-dimethyl-propionamide (93.06 g, 20 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (600 mL) for 2 days. Filter precipitate, concentrate filtrate, and purify (silica gel chromatography, eluting with hexanes:EtOAc 60:1) to give the title compound (55 g, 55%).
