Ammonium formate (1.00 g) was added to a solution of 4-{[2-(2-fluoro-phenyl)-ethylcarbamoyl]-methyl}-4-phenyl-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid benzyl ester (0.520 g, 1.10 mmol) in methanol (50 mL) containing 10% palladium/carbon (0.500 g) and stirred for 4 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through celite and concentrated under reduced pressure. The crude product was taken up in 1M sodium hydroxide (100 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×50 mL). The organic layers were collected and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 0.328 g (87%) of N-[2-(2-fluoro-phenyl)-ethyl]-2-(4-phenyl-piperidin-4-yl)-acetamide. LRMS m/z 341.1 (M+H)+.
