5,6-Dichloro-nicotinic acid methyl ester from step (a) above (1.23 g, 6.0 mmol) and (R)-(−)-2-methyl-piperazine (667 mg, 6.6 mmol, Aldrich) reacted under the conditions of Example 3a to give the title compound as a white solid. MS ESI, pos. ion) m/e: 270 (M+1).
