4-(2-Tetrahydro-2H-pyranoxy)phenylmagnesium bromide (0.5 M in THF, 35 mL, 17.5 mmol) was added to a solution of 3,5-difluorobenzaldehyde (1.95 g, 13.7 mmol) in THF (50 mL) slowly via syringe at −78° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at this temperature for 3 hours and then quenched with saturated NH4Cl (aqueous). The mixture was extracted with EtOAc (60 mL×2), and the combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated under reduced pressure to provide a colorless oil (3.9 g) as product M6.1, which was used directly in the next step.
