An ice cold solution of (R)-2-butanol (888 mg) in DCM (15 ml) was treated with Et3N (1.26 ml) and followed by dropwise addition of methanesulfonyl chloride (0.52 ml). After 1 h the solution was washed with saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate solution (5 ml), water (2×5 ml), brine (5 ml), dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to give the title compound (D33)(0.9 g). 1H NMR δ (CDCl3): 4.74 (1H, m), 3.00 (3H, s), 1.67 (2H, m), 1.41 (1H, d, J=6.5 Hz), 0.99 (3H, t, J=7.5 Hz).
