This copolymer can then be converted, if desired, to a low molecular weight aspartate/asparagine copolymer, by treating with aqueous NH4OH and drying the solution, preferably at about 60° C. Finally, a low molecular weight Asp/Asn/succinimide terpolymer can be produced by acidifying an aqueous solution of the aspartate/asparagine copolymer, e.g. to about pH 4, drying the solution, preferably at about 60° C.-80° C., and heating the residue at about 170-180° C. under vacuum or an inert atmosphere.
