3.89 g of N-phenylpiperazine were added to a solution of 1.69 g of 2-[2-(4-phenylbutyl)phenoxymethyl]oxirane [prepared as described in Example 1(a)] in 30 ml of acetonitrile, and the resulting mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 3 hours. At the end of this time, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure, and the resulting residue was purified by column chromatography through silica gel, using a 2:3 by volume mixture of ethyl acetate and hexane as the eluent, to give 920 mg (yield 34%) of the title compound as a colorless oil.
