| Reactant | Hydrochloric Acid | HCID 313 | — |
| Reactant | 1-t-Butoxycarbonyl-4-{2-[2-(3-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]phenoxy}piperidine | HCID 10621580 | — |
| Solvent | 1,4-Dioxane | HCID 31275 | — |
| Product | 4-{2-[2-(3-Methoxyphenyl)ethyl]phenoxy}piperidine hydrochloride | HCID 57497615 | 90% |
Reaction Steps
379 mg of 1-t-butoxycarbonyl-4-{2-[2-(3-methoxyphenyl) ethyl]phenoxy}piperidine [prepared as described in step (a) above] were dissolved in 5 ml of a 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane, and the solution was allowed to stand at room temperature for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was then concentrated by distillation under reduced pressure, and the resulting oily residue was dissolved in 10 ml of ethyl acetate, after which it was allowed to stand at room temperature. The crystals which precipitated were collected by filtration and dried in vacuo, to give 290 mg (yield 90%) of the title compound as colorless crystals, melting at 121°-122° C.
