Procedure
0.63 ml of a 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane was added to a solution of 670 mg of (R)-1-methyl-2-[2-(2-phenylethyl)phenoxymethyl]pyrrolidine [prepared as described in step (a) above] in a small amount of dioxane, and the resulting mixture was freed from the solvent by evaporation under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was then dissolved in a small amount of methanol, ethyl acetate was added to the solution, and the resulting mixture was allowed to stand at room temperature. The crystals which precipitated were collected by filtration and dried in vacuo, to give 596 mg (yield 85%) of the title compound as colorless crystals, melting at 211°-212° C. [α]D25 -5.6° (c=3 42, methanol)
