Alkylation reaction of phenol 24 with styrene oxide gave 2-(2-(3-(2-hydroxy-2-phenylethoxy)phenoxy)ethyl)isoindoline-1,3-dione as yellow oil. Yield (0.85 g, 50%): 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.99 (d, J=7.2 Hz, 1H), 7.41-7.53 (m, 3H), 7.28-7.38 (m, 5H), 7.12-7.16 (m, 1H), 6.60-6.65 (m, 1H), 6.52 (s, 1H), 6.48 (dd, J=8.0, 2.0 Hz, 1H), 4.79-4.82 (m, 1H), 4.19 (t, J=5.4 Hz, 2H), 3.72-3.84 (m, 4H).
