Procedure

0.85 g of 2(S)-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-3-methylbutanoic acid (N,N-dimethyl)amide is dissolved in 10 ml of 4N hydrochloric acid in dioxane at 0° C. and stirred for 7 hours at 0° C. The reaction mixture is lyophilised and the title compound is obtained: Rf (ethyl acetate/methanol/conc. ammonia=80:15:5)=0.23.
