A solution of 1.0 g of methyl 3-[[(4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]aminosulfonyl]-2-thiophenecarboxylate in 10 ml of ethanol and 1 ml of 50% sodium hydroxide in water was stirred overnight at room temperature. To this was added ice-water and aqueous hydrochloric acid until acidic, and the precipitate was filtered and washed first with acetone and then with methylene chloride. The product, 0.8 g, melted at 127°.
