Reaction Steps
3.1 g (8.17 mmol) of ethyl[[3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1,2-benzisoxazol-6-yl]sulfonylacetate was dissolved in 50 ml of methanol and an excess (15 ml) of 10% NaOH solution (15 ml) was added. The solution was refluxed for 15 minutes, cooled and acidified with 3N HCl. The white precipitate which formed was collected and recrystallized from 1:1 ethanol/water to give white crystals, 2.23 g (78%) of [[3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1,2-benzisoxazol-6-yl]sulfonyl]acetic acid, m.p. 201°-203° C.
