A suspension of compound 2B (1 g, 3.7 mmol) and CuCN (0.335 g, 0.374 mmol) in anhydrous DMF (8 mL) was refluxed for 5 h. After cooling to rt, the reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to remove most of the DMF and the remaining residue triturated with EtOAc (5×). The combined EtOAc was washed with water and brine, dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated under reduced pressure to dryness to yield compound 2C (0.8 g) as a yellow solid.
