A solution of (S)-tert-butyl 1-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-3-((1-adamantylmethyl)amino)propan-2-ylcarbamate (10 g, 22 mmol) in 1N HCl in CH3OH (30 mL) was stirred for 3 h at rt. After the reaction was complete, the solution was concentrated to give crude (S)-2-amino-3-((1-adamantylmethyl)amino)propan-1-ol as its HCl salt, which was used for the next step without purification.
