To a solution of 3-[2-tert-butyl-4-(4-fluoro-2-nitrophenyl)-1H-imidazol-5-yl]-2-fluoropyridine (0.13 g, 0.36 mmol) in 1,4-dioxane (4 mL) was added a solution of sodium dithionite (0.5 g, 0.003 mol) and ammonium hydroxide (0.5 mL, 0.004 mol) in water (4 mL). The reaction was stirred at 25° C. for 4 h and was then extracted with EtOAc. The combined extracts were washed with water 2×, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give 0.098 g of the desired product. 1H NMR (500 MHz, CD3OD): δ 8.28-8.29 (m, 1H), 7.95-7.99 (m, 1H), 7.45-7.46 (m, 1H), 7.34-7.35 (m, 1H), 6.77-7.11 (m, 2H), 6.73-6.77 (m, 1H), 1.56 (s, 9H). MS [M+H]=329.0.
