Instead of the starting material of Reference Example 1, that is, tert-butyl 4-acetylbenzoate, tert-butyl 4-propionylbenzoate was used for a similar procedure as in Reference Example 1 to obtain tert-butyl 4-[(1S)-1-hydroxypropyl]benzoate (compound S3a).
