Ethyl N-{(1S,2S)-2-[(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino]cyclopentyl}glycinate (910 mg, 3.18 mmol) was taken up in dioxane (16 mL) and HCl (7.5 mL of 4 M in dioxane, 30.0 mmol) was added. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford ethyl N-[(1S,2S)-2-aminocyclopentyl]glycinate (HCl salt) which was used without further purification.
