A suspension of 10.22 g (26.6 mmol) [1-(5-bromo-2-fluoro-phenyl)-2,2-difluoro-1-hydroxymethyl-ethyl]-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester in 133 ml 4N HCl in dioxane was stirred for two h at rt. The mixture was evaporated to give the hydrochloride salt of 2-amino-2-(5-bromo-2-fluoro-phenyl)-3,3-difluoro-propan-1-ol.
