3-Methyl-2-(methylsulfonyl)-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (600 mg) was added to a solution of 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,7-dimethyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-one (725 mg) and potassium tert-butoxide (351 mg) in DMA (4 ml) at 20° C. The mixture was stirred at 150° C. under a dry atmosphere for 30 min. The reaction mixture was diluted with MeOH and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (NH silica gel, eluted with 0%-50% EtOAc in hexane) to give 1,7-dimethyl-3-{4-[(3-methyl-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-yl)oxy]phenyl}-1,3-dihydro-2H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-one (150 mg) as colorless crystals.
