Procedure
A mixture of 2.26 g of 7-[2-(2-amino-4-thiazolyl)-acetamido]-3-acetoxymethyl-ceph-3-eme-4-carboxylic acid, 420 mg of sodium bicarbonate, 10 ml of water and 0.5 g of activated carbon was stirred for 3 minutes at 50° C and was then vacuum filtered. The filtrate was washed with acetone and concentrated to 5 ml and 50 ml of acetone were added. The mixture was heated to 60° C to cause crystallization and was vacuum filtered to obtain 1.745 g of sodium 7-[2-(2-amino-4-thiazolyl)-acetamido]-3-acetoxymethyl-ceph-3-eme-4-carboxylate with a specific rotation of [α]D = + 120° (C = 1% in water).
